My Story Real men don’t do musical theatre, really?

RMT_Heads_0007_Screen-Shot-2016-03-11-at-23.39.57 Well here’s my story. My wife has been involved in amateur dramatics for many years and I was always getting dragged in to help build set, do back stage work and nagged to have a go on stage. Three years ago, I gave in and I was given a small speaking part! It turned out the small part wasn’t that small, but with lots of help and encouragement I learnt the part and did the show. Rehearsals were great fun and show week was a mad rush of adrenalin, fear and fun. The bad side is it has rather taken over my life: since my first show in April 2015 I have appeared in two plays, two singing concerts, Carousel - The Musical on the main stage at Theatre Clwyd and stage managed two shows also at Theatre Clwyd. I am currently rehearsing for two shows in November and I am now Chair of Ruthin Musical Theatre. I know most people won’t be able or want to give up that much time which is fine you don’t have to, but most musical theatre groups are short on men and RMT is no exception so we need YOU! Being a man in musical theatre does give you an unfair advantage in that you will nearly always get a part, if you want one! In my spare time (not that I have much these days) I do a bit of white-water kayaking, scuba diving and caving – Who says real men don’t do musical theatre!

Why not give it a go? It might just change your life 😊
